“Tacos” are a Mexican Street Food which are rapidly gaining popularity in our country… Here’s a simple recipe for homemade tacos using ingredients that are easily available…

Ingredients:

For the Tacos:

  • Regular Whole Wheat Chapatis / Fulkas

For the Salad:

      • 1 finely grated Carrot
      • 1 finely grated Beetroot
      • 1 Cup finely chopped Cabbage
      • 1 Tbsp chopped Walnuts
      • 2-3 Green Chillies
      • Few springs of Fresh Coriander
      • 2-3 Tsp Oil
      • Juice of Half a Lemon
      • 1 Tsp Honey
      • ½ Tsp Mixed Herbs (Get Mixed Herbs Online)
      • Salt and Pepper

Method:

  1. Put the Oil, Lemon Juice, Honey, Herbs and Pepper in a large bowl and mix well. Put the salt while assembling to keep the salad crunchy.
  2. Add all the Vegetables and keep aside.

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup boiled moong
  • ½ Tbsp Oil
  • ¼ Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ¼ Tsp Asafeotida (Hing)
  • ¼ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tsp Red Chili Powder
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Heat Oil in a pan. Once hot enough add the mustard seeds, asafoetida, turmeric and moong. Mix well.
  2. Add Red Chilli Powder and Salt. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Let it cool down before assembling the Tacos.

For the Yogurt Dressing:

  • 1 cup Curd or Yogurt
  • 2-3 Tsp Oil
  • Juice of Half a Lemon
  • 2 Tsp Sugar
  • ½ Tsp Mixed Herbs
  • Salt and Pepper

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until it becomes smooth and creamy.

Assembling the Tacos:

  1. Take the Chapati or Fulka on a plate.
  2. Put a spoonful of salad in the centre.
  3. Put a spoonful of the moong filling on the salad.
  4. Finish off with a spoon of Yogurt Dressing.
